NAZ Suns Waive Draft Pick Ralph Sampson III, Claim Wally Niang

The Northern Arizona Suns announced Wednesday they have waived their 5th round pick from the 2016 NBA Development League Draft Ralph Sampson III and have claimed Wally Niang from the Available Player Pool.

Niang is a 6-foot 9-inch, 220-pound center from Senegal. The 20-year-old played in the Liga ACB league the last two years, which is a Spanish basketball league. Niang was a member of the MoraBanc Andorra last season, where he averaged 1.5 points, 0.3 rebounds and 2.0 minutes per game in four contests. In 2014-15, Niang played for the Tuenti Movil Estudiantes and appeared in three games.

The Suns waived Sampson, who was their 86th overall selection. He is a 6-foot 11-inch, 253-pound center who most recently played for the Maine Red Claws.

The NAZ Suns inaugural season tips off on Saturday, November 12th at 7PM, against the Iowa Energy at the Prescott Valley Event Center and are excited to bring affordable, family-friendly entertainment and quality basketball to Northern Arizona.  A variety of season ticket membership packages are available, with packages starting as low as $8 per game for the full season.
