PHOENIX – The Northern Arizona Suns announced Monday dates for their open tryouts for those hoping to make their 2017-18 roster.
The first open tryout will be in Prescott Valley at the Prescott Valley Event Center on Saturday, Sept. 9. This session is limited to 60 participants.
The second open tryout will be in Phoenix on Saturday, Sept. 16. The location is still to be determined, and participation will be limited at this session as well.
Participants must be 18 years or older.
At both tryouts, NAZ Suns and Phoenix Suns front office personnel will be on hand to evaluate athletes vying to join the NBA G League.
Four local tryout players received invites to the NAZ Suns training camp last season, and three of them made the opening night roster. Grand Canyon University’s Daniel Alexander, Louisiana State’s Josh Gray, and Asaad Woods, who once played at Mesa Community College after attending Mountain View High School in Mesa, Arizona, all played quality minutes for the Suns in 2016-17.
Gray and Woods finished the year on the squad. The LSU alum achieved the only triple-double in NAZ Suns history and played for the Orlando Magic Summer League team in July.
Players looking to replicate their success will need to register for either tryout at nazsuns.com/tryouts.
Each tryout will last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with registration check-in beginning at 8 a.m.
The cost to participate in a tryout is $150 in advance, or $200 the week of. Athletes can participate in both tryouts, but will need to register twice and still pay $150, or $200 week of, for each.
Hopeful participants are encouraged to register early, as each tryout is expected to fill up quickly.
