LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Getting the honor to represent his country, Xavier Silas did not disappoint.
Silas led NBA G League USA with 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-5 from distance, to go with three rebounds in 13 minutes of action. His team cruised over the Mexico National Team in the inaugural NBA G League International Challenge 88-67.
Silas entered Sunday’s game late in the first quarter and immediately went to work, making two quick three-pointers, finishing the first half with a team-high 10 points.
The Northern Arizona Suns guard was one of 14 players selected to Team USA’s World Cup Qualifying Team training camp, which began on Feb. 15. Of the 14 participating, 12 will make the team to compete in Team USA’s World Cup Qualifying first round, second-window games against Cuba on Feb. 23 and Puerto Rico on Feb. 26 in Santa Cruz, California. Silas made a great case to make the team after Sunday’s performance.
This season, Silas is averaging a career-high 19.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game, while shooting 39.9 percent from beyond the arc. He leads the entire NBA G League in three-point makes on the year (129) and averages the second most three-pointers made per game (3.9).
