PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – The Phoenix Suns announced Sunday that they have recalled Derrick Jones Jr. from the Northern Arizona Suns.
Jones was assigned to Phoenix’s NBA G League affiliate on Nov. 11 and has been with the NAZ Suns ever since. It marked his third assignment of the season and the ninth of his career.
The 20-year-old is back with the Phoenix Suns, who play tonight against the Chicago Bulls at 6 p.m. MT at Talking Stick Resort Arena.
While in the NBA G League this season, Jones played five games for the NAZ Suns, averaging 12.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.0 blocks in 32.0 minutes per game.
The 6-foot 7-inch, 195-pound forward had a career-day against the Iowa Wolves at the Prescott Valley Event Center on Nov. 11 in the Suns’ 124-119 overtime win. He recorded career-highs in points (24), rebounds (13), assists (five), field goals made (10) and field goals attempted (19), to go with three blocks and two steals.
Jones came in clutch multiple times for the Suns over this last assignment, nailing a go-ahead three-point field goal with 45.3 seconds left in overtime on Nov. 11, and making both free throws with 15.4 seconds left to give the Suns a one-point lead at the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Nov. 14.
Jones has averaged 1.4 points on 50 percent shooting and 0.6 rebounds per game in five contests for the Phoenix Suns this season.
