PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. – The Phoenix Suns announced Thursday that they have assigned Derrick Jones Jr. to the Northern Arizona Suns.
Jones makes his second trip to Prescott Valley this week, as he was assigned to Phoenix’s NBA G League affiliate on Tuesday, before being recalled on Wednesday.
This is Jones’ second assignment of the season and the eighth of his career.
The 6-foot 7-inch, 195-pound forward is expected to play tonight for Northern Arizona as they take on the Iowa Wolves at the Prescott Valley Event Center. Jones will see some familiar faces on the other side, as former Phoenix Suns and NAZ Suns teammate Elijah Millsap is now with the Wolves, along with former NAZ Suns teammate Michael Bryson.
Jones averaged 14.5 points on 49.5 percent shooting, 5.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game in 19 contests (17 starts) for the NAZ Suns last year.
The UNLV alum was on the bench for Phoenix as they took on the Miami Heat last night, but he didn’t appear in the game. He has averaged 1.8 points on 50 percent shooting and 0.8 rebounds per game for the Phoenix Suns this season in four games.
